Welcome to Browns Branch Acres!

Browns Branch Acres started as a family hobby farm in 2012 after moving from the Arkansas backwoods to 10.5 acres in the heart of Kent County Delaware. During the first three years, we acquired chickens, guineas, turkeys, quail, and peafowl to accompany the three horses we had brought with us during the move. Our interest in poultry soon expanded into the poultry show circuit and, after much research, we quickly zeroed in on raising show quality Buckeye bantams and large fowl. Starting in 2014, our Buckeyes acquired multiple first place, best and reserve breed, reserve champion, and reserve grand champion honors at various shows up until the flock was annihilated by multiple fox and dog attacks in 2018. Since then, we have acquired new birds and will continue to help preserve and improve the Buckeye chicken.

Our general interest in goats began with the trade of a trio of Buckeye bantams for a Pygmy goat. Shortly afterwards, we acquired our first registered Pygmies and Mini-Lamanchas. Interest in meat goats arose, ironically, after tasting goat meat for the first time in Caribbean cuisine. Being that Delaware goat farms were persistently at war with parasitism, we knew that we wanted a breed that could thrive under stress and blossom where most goats would shrivel. Eventually, we stumbled across Kiko and Spanish meat goats where we ultimately chose to pursue Kikos. In the summer of 2018, we purchased fourteen registered percentage, purebred, and New Zealand does as well as two New Zealand bucks. Since then, we have continued to introduce new blood stock to the herd to produce a good base upon which selection criteria can be implemented.

NOTE: We are no longer located at our original Delaware farm. The brunt of our herd is now located (temporarily) in Butler, KY as we continue to search for a new property.
